How to compare a lens quote without guesswork

The ten cards above are branches of one chain, not a comparison of ten independent opticians. Pick by your hotel and pickup route, then ask for a written, itemized quote. Separate the frame price from lens material or index, design (single-vision or progressive), coatings, any tint and the estimated completion date. “Thin lenses” is too vague to compare between shops: request the exact lens specification and total price. A higher-index option may reduce edge thickness for some prescriptions, but frame size and shape also affect the result.

Bring a readable prescription showing right and left eye separately. SPH is the spherical power; CYL and axis describe astigmatism; ADD indicates near addition when prescribed; prism must not be silently omitted. The optician should measure the frame fit and pupillary alignment for the lenses being ordered, with additional fitting measurements for progressive designs. Do not assume a quick machine reading replaces a full medical eye examination. If your existing prescription is old or your vision has changed, ask whether the shop can perform the needed refraction or refer you to an eye-care clinician.

Before you pay and at pickup

  1. Try the exact frame for bridge pressure, slipping and lens height; a fashionable oversized frame can change lens thickness and weight.
  2. Ask whether the quoted lenses are in stock locally or must be ordered, and get the pickup date in writing.
  3. Confirm what is included after sale: nose-pad or temple adjustment, remake conditions, coating warranty and whether overseas follow-up is possible.
  4. At pickup, check distance signs and your usual reading or screen distance while wearing the pair; report blur, imbalance or uncomfortable pressure before leaving.
  5. Keep the itemized receipt and the new prescription or lens specification for future adjustments.

What should you bring when buying glasses in Korea?

  • Your current glasses and written prescription, if available.
  • Passport for identity and possible tax-refund procedures.
  • Exact requirements for progressive, prism, high-index or specialty lenses.
  • Enough time for fitting, lens preparation and a return adjustment.

Can every pair be made on the same day?

No. Simple prescriptions may sometimes be completed quickly, but high prescriptions, progressive lenses, special coatings and uncommon lens sizes can require extra days. Confirm the completion time before paying and do not plan pickup immediately before a flight.

When should you visit a hospital instead of an optical store?

Seek medical care for sudden vision loss, severe eye pain, injury, flashes or a curtain-like shadow, marked redness, or other urgent symptoms. For hospital selection, language support and appointment planning, read VEMORIQ’s Medical Korea guide. In an emergency in Korea, call 119.
