Rental time and price

Common choices are two to four hours or a full day. Compare a current itemized quote for the outfit, accessories, hairstyle and rental period. Confirm the final price before dressing.

Where to rent

The largest cluster is around Gyeongbokgung Station and the Gwanghwamun side of the palace district. Changdeokgung and Changgyeonggung also have shops near Donhwamun and Changgyeonggung-ro. Choose a branch that fits the palace entrance and return route.

Admission and comfort

A qualifying outfit generally needs both a hanbok-style top and bottom, not only a robe over ordinary clothes. Palace policies, deposits and included accessories can change. Keep valuables with you and wear comfortable shoes beneath the skirt or trousers.

Plan backward from the return time

Choose the palace first, confirm that it is open, then select a rental shop along your arrival and return route. Set aside time for choosing the outfit, fitting, hair or accessories and storing ordinary clothing. A short rental period can disappear quickly in a queue, so ask when the clock starts and what happens if you return late.

Compare the complete quote

Request a total that separates the garment, underskirt or other layers, accessories, hairstyle, storage, photography and deposit. A low advertised starting price may describe a different outfit from the one you select. Ask how the deposit is returned and keep the receipt; do not assume that two shops use the same damage or late-return rules.

Fit for the route, not only the portrait

Try walking, sitting and lifting your arms before leaving. Choose a hem length that lets you see steps, and keep comfortable shoes on for the palace grounds. Weather affects the layers you need; plan a dry place to adjust clothing without occupying a narrow gate or busy path. Ask the shop before changing or pinning delicate fabric.

Admission and photography

The palace authority, rather than the rental shop, determines any hanbok admission benefit. Check the current outfit requirements and special-program exclusions directly. A rental also does not grant commercial photography permission or access to closed buildings. Keep entrances clear and ask before photographing other visitors.
