Samsung Medical Center: choose the booking route before arranging your day

Samsung Medical Center is at 81 Irwon-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Save 삼성서울병원 서울 강남구 일원로 81 for map searches. For international-patient consultations, the hospital lists its International Healthcare Center (IHC) at +82-2-3410-0200 and ihs.smc@samsung.com. Its Health Promotion Center handles a separate route for screening packages. Describe what you need before selecting a service.

What happens on the first outpatient visit?

The published IHC pathway starts with an appointment request, followed by preparation and registration. It asks first-time patients to arrive 30 minutes before the appointment with photo identification. The initial physician review may lead to a specialist referral; it does not mean every requested test or procedure will happen that day. Bring recent reports, relevant imaging and a clearly labelled medication list.

For practical planning, keep three times separate: arrival at the hospital, the confirmed consultation and the time you expect to leave. Only the first two can be planned from your booking. Registration, clinical decisions and additional tests can change the third. Keep a tour or long-distance train reservation out of the immediately following slot. Any duration shown in VEMORIQ’s itinerary tool is a placeholder, not a hospital waiting-time estimate.

Check language support and payment before confirming

The current FAQ lists IHC hours as weekdays 08:00–17:00, excluding public holidays, and asks patients to request interpretation when booking. It specifically says same-day interpretation is not guaranteed. Explain the language you need for the clinical discussion, not just the language you can use for email.

Korean National Health Insurance needs a separate conversation: the hospital’s FAQ says IHC care uses international rates without NHI benefits. It also describes referral requirements for first visits under NHI. If you are enrolled in NHI, ask which registration route applies before choosing IHC; do not assume an English-language service and insured domestic billing are interchangeable. These are the hospital’s stated arrangements, not a determination of your eligibility.

Ask the hospital and insurer to confirm who pays first, which services need authorization and what documents you should keep. When contracted insurance is used, the outpatient instructions request a Guarantee of Payment in advance. A policy number is not the same as that guarantee. Obtain an itemized estimate if treatment is being planned, and ask what may change after the consultation.

A useful message to send before travelling

  • Identify the patient consistently with their passport and state whether this is a first visit.
  • Summarize the concern, when it began and any existing diagnosis in a short paragraph.
  • List available reports and imaging; ask for the hospital’s approved transfer method before sending large or sensitive files.
  • Give the dates you can attend and the date you intend to leave Korea.
  • Request the building, registration desk, arrival time, interpretation confirmation and payment instructions in the reply.

Save that reply offline with the Korean hospital name. A campus map pin does not identify your clinic or registration desk. If accompanying a relative, ask about access and mobility assistance directly; do not infer that a visitor can attend every stage of care.

Plan your documents before the final appointment

Ask during the consultation if you will need a medical certificate or doctor’s statement. SMC describes these as documents requested from the physician, rather than something automatically included with a receipt. Before leaving, confirm how to collect results and images, whether further visits are expected and how your usual clinician can receive the necessary information. Do not schedule travel around an assumed completion date for treatment.
