Texture test checklist
- Use the back of your clean hand if store policy allows.
- Check white cast after the product settles, not only while wet.
- Do not rely on a tester for SPF performance.
- Confirm whether the formula and UV filters are sold or approved in your home market.
How to choose and use sunscreen beyond the tester
Before buying: Read the exact package rather than judging protection by a pleasant finish. For outdoor use, look for broad-spectrum UVA/UVB coverage and SPF 30 or higher. If you will swim or sweat, check that the specific product is labeled water resistant and follow its stated duration. Product names and labels can differ between markets; a photograph of a Korean package does not establish the rating or approval status of a version sold elsewhere.
Before going outside: Apply enough to cover every exposed area, including the ears, neck and tops of the feet. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) advises at least about one teaspoon for the face and about one ounce for most adults’ uncovered skin; individual body size and exposed area vary. Do not stretch a small amount across a large area simply to avoid shine or pilling.
While outdoors: Reapply about every two hours, and immediately after swimming or sweating, following the product label. Sunscreen works alongside shade, a hat and protective clothing—not in place of them. A hand tester can reveal texture, white cast or pilling, but cannot verify SPF, water resistance or how your face will react. If a formula irritates your skin, stop using it and check the ingredients; seek professional advice for persistent symptoms.
