Woljeongri Beach · 월정리해변

Woljeongri Beach is a useful eastern Jeju stop when you want to combine a coastal walk with a café break. It can also be a water-activity destination, but that requires a separate plan. Decide which kind of visit you want before booking a lesson or fitting the beach between other attractions.

Choose the visit that fits your day

Visit Jeju places Woljeongri in Gujwa-eup and highlights its beachside cafés, restaurants and surfing scene. The official listing also mentions shallow sections of water, but that description should not be treated as permission to swim in any season or conditions. Visit Jeju: Woljeongri Beach.

For a first visit, choose one priority: time on the sand, a particular café, or a pre-arranged surf lesson. Trying to do all three during a short driving stop can leave little time for the coast itself. A café-focused visit is easier to shorten if the weather changes; an activity booking needs time for check-in, equipment and changing afterward.

Finding the beach and planning the return

Search a Korean map for 월정리해수욕장. Visit Jeju lists 481 Haemajihaean-ro, Gujwa-eup, Jeju-si, while the Korea Tourism Organization lists number 485 on the same road. Use the beach name to identify the coastal area, then choose the exact café, parking entrance or meeting point you need. VISITKOREA beach listing.

If driving, save both your destination and an acceptable parking location before departure. A café address is not a parking entitlement; check its customer-parking conditions and avoid village entrances or working access routes. If taking a bus, check the walking section from the stop as well as the return departure. Compare the complete journey from your accommodation rather than relying on a single island-wide travel-time estimate.

For a taxi pickup, use a specific business or clearly identified roadside meeting point instead of simply asking for “the beach.” Keep the Korean place name available on your phone. Mobile route estimates and service availability should be checked on the day.

How much time should you allow?

Editorial planning suggestion: allow roughly 60–90 minutes for a short walk and one café stop, excluding travel and any waiting time. If you only want a quick look at the coast, you can shorten this. If a particular café is the main attraction, look at its current opening hours and ordering arrangements before committing your itinerary to it.

For a surf lesson, use the operator’s full arrival-to-departure duration rather than treating the lesson length as the entire visit. Ask what equipment, changing facilities and instruction language are included, and what happens if conditions lead to cancellation. Keep your next reservation flexible until those details are clear.

Swimming and surfing require separate checks

Confirm the current beach-opening period, supervised swimming area and local restrictions before planning to enter the water. Follow signs and staff directions on arrival. For a non-swimming visit, a wind-resistant layer, sun protection and footwear suitable for the approach are more useful than planning around a sunny photograph.

Families should decide in advance whether this is a sand-and-café outing or a supervised swimming visit. Do not change that plan simply because other people are in the water. Surfing arrangements should be confirmed directly with the operator, including whether the session suits your experience.

A short coastal walk is not the whole Olle route

Woljeongri lies along Jeju Olle Route 20. Visit Jeju describes the full Gimnyeong–Hado route as approximately 17.4 km and five to six hours, passing Woljeong Beach en route. That is a substantial walking day, not an extra stroll to add casually after coffee. Check current route notices before setting out. Official Route 20 overview · Jeju Olle Route 20.

If you only want a short section, choose a turnaround point and return to your arrival location. For a one-way walk, arrange how you will reach your accommodation or parked car before starting. Build the rest of your east-coast day around that choice using our Jeju first-timer guide.
