Hotba & Sausage Skewers · 핫바·소시지꼬치
Hotba and sausage skewers share a convenient stick, but their main ingredients differ. A typical hotba is a fish-paste snack, often mixed with vegetables and fried into a firm bar. A sausage skewer is made from a seasoned meat sausage. Market counters, snack shops and rest stops may also offer combinations with cheese or a sausage inside the fish cake.
Flavor & texture
Hotba is savory and springy, with small vegetable pieces and a browned surface. Sausage is denser and juicier, sometimes smoky, with a casing that gives a gentle snap. Ketchup brings sweetness and acidity; mustard adds tang. Taste a little before covering the whole skewer.
Nutrition context
Fish or meat contributes protein, while starch, frying oil and sauces affect the overall balance. Sausages and seasoned fish cakes can be salty. Portion size, meat content, cooking method and topping quantity vary, so these are best described as substantial snacks rather than assigned one fixed calorie value.
How it is made
Fish paste is mixed with seasonings, a binder such as starch or flour and, often, chopped vegetables, then shaped and cooked. Sausage skewers may be grilled, pan-heated or fried. Some vendors finish either type on a griddle; the cooking method and fillings depend on the product.
Chili heat
Usually 0–1/5 before spicy sauce is added. Chili-filled hotba, spicy sausage and hot sauces can be much hotter. Mustard sharpness is different from chili heat. Request the plain version and sauces separately if you prefer a mild snack.
Main ingredients

The photo compares fish paste, sausages, carrots and green onions, starch, ketchup and mustard. These illustrate the two snacks rather than a universal recipe. The type of fish, meat, binder and sauce differs between products, and some hotba has a hidden sausage or cheese filling.
How to enjoy it
Ordering tips. Point to the item you want and say “핫바 하나 주세요” or “소시지꼬치 하나 주세요” (One hotba / sausage skewer, please). Ask “안에 뭐가 들어 있어요?” (What is inside?) for filled versions. “소스는 따로 주세요” requests sauce on the side. Confirm the price of the selected size before ordering.
